The first trip, is in September to a European capital, where the goal is to give students the opportunity to see and experience a EU capital as well as an insight into the workings of the EU institutions. Trips to other European countries provide experience, which help to create a greater international awareness. The trip is combined with teaching in European social studies and the students will visit amongst other things, some of the EU institutions. Where possible students will also meet with representatives in the respective institutions. Cultural and historical sightseeing is also an important part of this trip. The trip also has an important social element, as it is the first time the students are on a trip abroad together.
This year the trip was to Luxembourg and Belgium. Highlights included a trip to NATO, the EU Parliament, Court of Auditors, sailing and mountainbiking in Belgium, and the Family of Man museum.
